- Anti-Government Demonstrations in Tel Aviv After Hostage Release

Anti-government demonstrators are assembling at Democracy Square in Tel Aviv for their weekly gathering on June 8, 2024.
Their demands include early elections, the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and a resolution for the release of hostages held by Hamas.

The protest follows the release of four hostages earlier today in a rescue operation, prompting war cabinet minister Benny Gantz to delay his planned resignation.
Four Israeli hostages rescued on June 8 from a central Gaza refugee camp were freed by troops "from the heart of a civilian neighborhood" in two simultaneous raids, the military said.
According to Times of Israel, speakers at tonight's event include Major General Amos Malka, former head of IDF intelligence, Reut Forstner Avraham, a resident of Israel's besieged north, and Ran Harnevo, an activist and leading figure in the “Elections Now” movement.

This demonstration comes against a backdrop of systematic anti-government protests every Saturday in Israel for months, which have given rise to violent scenes.
