The Israeli military said Saturday its troops had rescued four Israeli hostages alive from Gaza after a "complex daytime operation."

"Noa Argamani (25), Almog Meir Jan (21), Andrey Kozlov (27), and Shlomi Ziv (40), were kidnapped by the Hamas terrorist organization from the Nova music festival on October 7," the military said in a statement, adding the four were in "good medical condition." They were brought to Tel HaShomer hospital for additional assessment.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "Israel does not surrender to terrorism" after troops on Saturday rescued four hostages held by militants in the Gaza Strip.

Security forces "have proven that Israel does not surrender to terrorism and acts with creativity and courage that knows no limits to bring home our hostages," Netanyahu said in a statement.

Of the 252 people taken hostage on October 7, 116 are still being held in Gaza now that the four new hostages have been released, and the deaths of 37 people are known for certain.

The Hostage Families Forum hailed this as a “miraculous triumph”, urging the government and the international community to secure the release of the other captives.

On Israeli TV footage, former hostage Noa Argamani appears on screen, smiling, chatting on the phone with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, according to the channel.

"Former Hamas hostage Noa Argamani with her father Yaakov. What a relief,” wrote the Israeli embassy in France on X, accompanied by a photo of the two, big smiles on their lips.

Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke by telephone with the young woman held for eight months in Gaza, his Office said, before a visit by the Prime Minister to the hospital where the four former hostages were received.

Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari said the four hostages were rescued from two structures in central Gaza and that hundreds of soldiers took part in the daytime operation.

One Israeli soldier died during the operation.

A U.S. official told Axios the U.S. hostages cell in Israel supported the effort to rescue the four hostages.

Benny Gantz cancelled his evening speech

Meanwhile, war cabinet minister Benny Gantz canceled his evening address, where he was expected to withdraw his National Unity party from the coalition.

Gantz said last month he would resign from the war cabinet if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not approve a post-war plan for Gaza by June 8.

His centrist National Union Party submitted a bill last week to dissolve the Knesset, Israel's parliament, and hold an early election.

The announcement came after the successful military operation rescued four living hostages from the Gaza Strip

Furthermore, a senior Hamas official claimed that the rescue of four hostages after 9 months is a "sign of failure."

Israel's rescue of four hostages alive in the Gaza Strip is an "important sign of hope", German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Saturday.

"An important sign of hope -- in particular for the numerous Israeli families who continue to fear for those close to them. Four hostages are now free," Scholz said on X, formerly Twitter, calling on Hamas to release all remaining hostages and the war to end.

Nuseirat camp at the heart of Israeli bombardments

In recent days, Israeli strikes have concentrated on the center of the Gaza Strip, and in particular on Nousseirat, where one strike on a school belonging to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) left 37 people dead on Thursday, according to a local hospital.

Accusing Hamas of purposely using the school to launch attacks, the Israeli army said it had killed “17 terrorists” in the strike. Hamas denounced “false information”.

The school was home to “6,000 people displaced” by the fighting, according to Unrwa.

Before announcing the hostages, the Israeli army said on Saturday that it was targeting “terrorist infrastructures” in the Nousseirat area, while witnesses reported firing from drones and helicopters against the camp.

Simultaneous raids by special forces had targeted two Hamas locations in Nuseirat, central Gaza. Argamani was rescued at one place, while Meir Jan, Kozlov and Ziv were at another.

According to the Gaza government media office, “the Israeli massacre that took place in Nuseirat refugee camp has led to the killing of 210 Palestinians and the injury of more than 400”.
