Lebanese Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, traveled on Saturday, heading to the United States.
According to an LAF statement on X, he will be holding several meetings to discuss strengthening US support for the Army, in light of current challenges.
It is noteworthy that after Lebanon’s financial meltdown in 2019, Washington increased its aid to LAF. In June 2023, the US redirected $72 million for Lebanon to help pay the salaries of Lebanese Army personnel for six months.
Aoun is also considered a third candidate for the Lebanese presidency after the vacancy since October 2022.
