Public Prosecutor at the Mount Lebanon Court of Appeal, Ghada Aoun, retorted to Acting Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Judge Jamal Hajjar’s decision to discharge her from all cases she is working on by accusing him of “usurping” his post.
Twice dismissed from office, Aoun was quick to react in the most unusual way, by contesting the legitimacy of the public prosecutor and the legality of his decisions.
“I was not notified of his appointment as head of the court of cassation,” she claimed, adding that “Judge Hajjar's decision is null and illegal, because he does not have the right to put me in the closet.”
Aoun said she plans to appeal Hajjar’s decision to the State Council on Monday to invalidate it.
According to her, Judge Hajjar's initiative "falls exclusively within the power of the Minister of Justice, who acts at the request of the Judicial Disciplinary Council.” Aoun asked the caretaker minister, Henry Khoury, to intervene to “put an end to these abuses which obstruct justice.”
Another Scandal
According to sister company, Houna Loubnan, Aoun colluded with two lawyers whom she instructed to file lawsuits against specific banks. She would then summon the bank owners and managers, blackmail them, and threaten them with arrest.
The two lawyers were identified as A. B. and M. J., who are affiliated with the Free Patriotic Movement and personally close to Aoun.
Hajjar has discharged Aoun on Thursday, from all the cases she was working on despite her dismissal. Aoun was sanctioned by the Disciplinary Council of the Judiciary in May 2023 for her unprofessional behavior.
Judge Hajjar also sent a memorandum to the various security services, prohibiting them from implementing the warrants she issues or communicating to her information relating to cases, old or recent, that she is following.
The public prosecutor notified them of the need to communicate solely with the assistant public prosecutor at the Mount Lebanon Court of Appeal, i.e. Aoun’s subordinate.
