On Thursday, a school bus carrying students caught fire on the al-Shifa–Abi Samra road in Tripoli. The fire was contained before spreading, averting another catastrophe. The fire had started on the driver's side of the floorboard and was believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
Unfortunately, the previous day, Wednesday, disaster could not be avoided and the cause was not accidental, but the result of negligence that claimed the life of a schoolgirl on a school bus.
Nisrine Ezzeddine, aged 13, fell to the ground while on board the bus taking her home to Bab al-Raml. The floor of the vehicle gave way beneath her and she fell through the hole before anyone could react.
Seriously injured after being crushed by the bus, she soon succumbed to her injuries at al-Mazloum Hospital, where she was taken.
Security forces arrested the driver and referred him to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
