The CMA CGM Foundation (a French shipping giant) and the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) have signed a partnership agreement with the aim of providing 50% of the fuel required to operate ambulances throughout the country in the first half of the current year. “Since February 2004, the fuel supply of 285 Lebanese Red Cross ambulances has been guaranteed and 75,000 patients will be transported during the first half of 2024,” indicates a press release.
The Foundation of the CMA CGM Group, a global player in transport and logistics, is therefore committed to “taking part in the sustainability of these emergency logistics, which enable us to respond to vital patient emergencies in Lebanon at any time of the day or night.”
This partnership represents a new stage “in a shared commitment to meet the paramount needs of the Lebanese,” the foundation stresses, noting that since 2019, it has notably offered the LRC personal protective equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic and essential foodstuffs after the Beirut port explosion on August 4, 2020, thanks to the mobilization of CMA CGM Group's maritime and logistical expertise.
This initiative is also part of “the continuation of a dynamic with the partnerships already established between the CMA CGM Foundation and the International Committee of the Red Cross, the French Red Cross, and the American Red Cross, in particular for the transport of humanitarian supplies through the ‘Containers of Hope’ operation,” says the foundation.
For over sixty years, LRC ambulances have been responsible for more than 80% of emergency and pre-hospital transport.
