Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kicks Off Her 24-Hour Visit to Beirut
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, began her 24-hour visit to Lebanon on Tuesday morning, where she is expected to meet with political leaders to discuss “the efforts needed to restore stability in Lebanon” and “the large Canadian community present in the country.”

“While in Lebanon, Minister Joly will also underscore Canada’s support for Lebanon and Lebanese people in their current challenges and reaffirm Canada’s commitment to regional stability,” reads a press release issued by the Canadian government on its website.


Before noon on Tuesday, Joly met with the head of Parliament, Nabih Berri, who received her and the accompanying delegation in Ain el-Tineh.


The Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister's visit is part of a regional tour that also includes Turkey and Greece.


Her meetings with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Army Commander-in-Chief General Joseph Aoun and UNIFIL Commander-in-Chief General Aroldo Lázaro, as well as a visit to one of the Canadian-funded development projects in Beirut, are on the agenda.
