Cultural Fusion in Architecture: Brazil Meets Lebanon
On May 13 and 17, 2024, the residence of the Brazilian Ambassador in Lebanon, a hallmark of Brazilian-Lebanese modernist architecture, will open its doors to the public for guided tours. These tours, inaugurated last year, have rapidly become a cultural highlight, attracting full bookings and receiving exceptional feedback from visitors and media alike.

The guided tours of the Brazilian Ambassador in Lebanon’s residence were highly acclaimed by the public. Some reflections from attendees of the previous year include: "Perfectly organized, coordinated. The house is a masterpiece of Brazilian Brutalism. The guide was perfectly covering all aspects from philosophical, artistic, social to technical. Thank you for hosting me in your beautiful residence. Till we meet again.";  "It’s very interesting and important to showcase such buildings to the public, it’s an important step into cultural exchange."

Designed by the esteemed architect Olavo Redig de Campos, the residence exemplifies the fusion of Brazilian modernism with Middle Eastern cultural influences. The premises also feature an abstract sculpture by the celebrated Brazilian artist Bruno Giorgi, located in its garden.

The forthcoming tours will be led by Dr. George Arbid, director of the Arab Center for Architecture, a pivotal institution in the study of modernist architecture in the region (https://arab-architecture.org/).

This initiative is spearheaded by the Brazilian Embassy in Beirut, supported by the Guimarães Rosa Institute, and aims to foster appreciation for Brazilian architecture and enhance intercultural dialogue.

Participation in the visits, including shuttle service, is complimentary. However, due to the first-come, first-served policy, pre-registration by May 5 is essential and can be completed through the following link: https://forms.gle/aotc8H3TfRX6ULZp7.
