The Palestinian movement issued a statement on Saturday in response to Israel's latest ceasefire proposal. Hamas, without giving a positive response to an agreement, reaffirms its previous demands and asserts its willingness to achieve a hostage exchange.
"We reaffirm our adherence to our demands and the national demands of our people: a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of the occupation army from the entire Gaza Strip, the return of the displaced to their areas and place of residence, the intensification of the entry of relief and aid, and the start of rebuilding", says the statement released on Saturday evening.
"We emphasize our readiness to conclude a serious and genuine exchange of prisoners between the two sides", adds the Palestinian Islamist movement.
A few hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to some criticisms he faced, accusing him of being the main obstacle to reaching an agreement between Israel and Hamas.
"Contrary to reports, the only obstacle to obtaining the release of the hostages is Hamas and not any factor on the Israeli side", said the Prime Minister's office in a statement.
"Despite the broad mandate that the negotiating team received from the prime minister and the cabinet, Hamas has to this day refused any deal and any compromise proposal" read the statement a little later.
