Social media platforms owned by Meta namely Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp have experienced a series of global outages Wednesday evening, acknowledged the company through one of its spokespersons.
The website Downdetector, which tracks social media interruption issues through user reports, notably recorded a surge in reports around 9:00 PM (Beirut time).
WhatsApp and, to a lesser extent, Instagram were the main platforms affected by the outage. Interestingly, WhatsApp notably communicated about this outage via X, a competing platform, which is usually unusual.
An hour later, the incident was resolved, and the affected networks were fully operational again.
This isn't the first global outage to hit the Meta group this year. On March 5th, the company experienced a massive outage that disrupted Instagram and Facebook for several hours.
