The Municipal Council of the City of Brussels unanimously voted, on Monday evening, in favor of a motion aimed at prohibiting the purchase of products from Israeli settlements through public procurement, according to Belgian media.

The council unanimously adopted the proposal, introduced by member Benoit Hellings, which calls on the local authority of the city to "ensure that its purchases do not benefit companies operating under conditions that do not respect international law, human rights, or environmental law."

The motion also explicitly requests to provide the candidate or person submitting the proposal with the opportunity to provide evidence to demonstrate their reliability.

The Labor Party, which supported the majority motion, had submitted a motion proposal aimed at severing economic and political relations until Israel respects international law.

Regarding such measures taken against Israel, the United States had previously sanctioned three Israeli settlers and two farming outposts in mid-March, which marks the second time this year that Washington has sanctioned Israeli settlers.
