Cheriff Tabet Gallery opens its elegant space in Achrafieh to showcase the art of Philippe Farhat in a solo exhibition titled Inside Us.
Philippe Farhat, a painter and interior designer based in Beirut, also teaches art at several institutions. He probes the intimacy of the soul, revisiting neglected childhood dreams and often challenging ambitions. Addressing notions of cultural identity and existentialism, Farhat’s works illustrate the origins of internal conflict within the depths of the mind.
“For me, art captures the very essence of humanity, offering an introspection of our deep selves and our cultural roots. Influenced by reflections on existence and the cosmos, my art delves into philosophical contemplation, navigating the complex relationship between consciousness and the subconscious. My latest works focus on the poignant subject of forsaken youth dreams, questioning how social pressures and our own limitations prompt us to give up these ideals.”
In his paintings, whether small or large, Farhat aims to convey this relentless struggle that transcends physical boundaries, highlighting that the roots of internal discord lie within our psyche. His creations serve as a reflection of this internal battle, illustrating the vibrant interaction occurring within our collective consciousness.

Utilizing a variety of techniques and materials, such as oil paint, acrylic, wood, metal, fabric, charcoal, and even cement, Farhat brings to life the existential questions that captivate him. His works, characterized by a sophisticated and powerful methodology, reveal dark colors and intense formal expression, often marked by circles symbolizing the cycle of life, in harmony with the diversified mediums.
The three-dimensional effect, achieved by adding materials to the canvases, seamlessly blends with the pictorial elements. On the opening evening, Cheriff Tabet Gallery transformed into a musical space. A grand piano, placed at the heart of the room, allowed musician Bassam Challita to interpret Farhat’s art through improvisational musical pieces inspired by the artwork. Bassam Challita, renowned for his versatility as a pianist, maestro, and producer, is celebrated internationally for his avant-garde initiatives that brilliantly fuse classical, jazz, oriental, and modern genres. His unique approach, enriched by interactive elements and technological innovations, engages the audience in unparalleled sensory experiences.
Driven by a profound sensitivity to the spectrum of human emotions, Challita draws inspiration from the nuances of life for this musical collaboration, thus offering an immersive experience where painting and music intertwine.
This captivating exhibition can be explored at the Cheriff Tabet Gallery until April 6.
