'Beirut Animation Nights:' The Power of Unspoken Words
Union Marks, in collaboration with Lary Bou Saff, cordially invites the public to the Beirut Animation Nights' inaugural festivities. The event will take place at Union Marks and will welcome attendees without prior reservations. Beirut Animation Nights will be celebrated from March 22 until March 24, with a wide range of activities.

On Friday, March 22, 2024, the Beirut Animation Nights festivities will inaugurate with an opening speech and mascot reveal at Cinema Royal at 6:00 PM for 30 minutes, free of charge. Subsequent International Shorts Competition 1 and 2 and Arab Shorts Competition, prior to the Beirut Animation Nights opening party, will be screening.

The agenda for Saturday, March 23, 2024, features a variety of talks, workshops and competitions. Notably, a discussion on "Unveiling Five Upcoming Arab Feature Animation Films in Development" by filmmakers from across the Arab world, such as Nadia Rais from Tunisia, Sofia El Khyari from Morocco, Jalal Maghout from Syria, Ahmad Saleh from Palestine and Nicolas Fattouh from Lebanon, will take place at Alba-UOB, free of charge. Additionally, a "Character Design Workshop" led by Patrik Sfeir is set to occur, also at Alba-UOB, with no attendance fee but requires prior submission for participation. The Multaqa Mt7rk #3 event is also open to all without reservation, subject to seating capacity. It includes a presentation about Mt7rk and a discussion on alternative educational models for learning animation, presentation of "Marsam el Hikaya" and "Khallata Training."

Moreover, talks and masterclasses concerning the NFB/ONF Canada talk, Arab feature animation projects, the Panorama section and João Gonzalez's Masterclass are open to the public and require no reservations, provided seating is available. These sessions will convene in the Amphitheatre Samir J. Abillama at ALBA-UOB.

The program for Sunday, March 24, 2024, commences with a discourse titled "Journey of Ice Merchants: From Student Film to Cannes and the Oscars," presented by Joao Gonzales of Portugal. This event is scheduled to take place at Alba-UOB and will last 60 minutes. Afterwards, a "Panorama" session will occur. At 6:15 PM, a presentation entitled "Sneak peek into NFB Canada (Montréal): Exploring the Work of Four Talented Female Directors," featuring Hayat Najm, Marielle Dalpé, Parissa Mohit and Eva Cvijanovic, will be held. The evening will proceed with the International Shorts Competition 4 and Awards distribution at Cinema Royal, spanning 2 hours. The night concludes cheerfully with a Karaoke event at 11 PM.

Cinema Royal elucidates that screenings, including the International Shorts Competition, Arab Shorts Competition and Young Audience Competition, will adopt a donation-based admission policy, and strongly recommends a $5 USD contribution. No reservations are necessary. However, early arrival is advised to ensure seating availability.
