Baalbeck Caught in Hostilities: Third Israeli Strike in Less Than 24 Hours
Israeli warplanes carried out a raid on Tuesday near Safrin on the way to Baalbeck, the second such attack in the area in two days.

Less than half an hour later, another strike targeted the village of Nabi Sheet in the same area.

Two rockets were fired at Nabi Sheet, one targeting a three-storey building in the heart of the village, near the tomb of former Hezbollah leader Abbas Mussawi, who was killed by Israel in 1992, and the other hitting the outskirt of Nabi Sheet, according to This is Beirut's correspondent.

Two people have been killed and 10 others wounded in today's attacks, according to the latest casualty toll.

The region of Baalbeck was the scene of three Israeli strikes since Monday evening, further escalating violence that has been mainly concentrated in the south of Lebanon, along the border with Israel, since October 8, when Hezbollah opened its so-called "support front" for Gaza.

The mainly-Shiite inhabited Baalbeck region is known to be a hotbed of Hezbollah.

Earlier this morning, Hezbollah announced in a statement that it had targeted the headquarters of Israeli air and missile defenses in Kilah Barracks, the missile and artillery base in Yoav, and the artillery positions surrounding it with more than a hundred Katyusha rockets, in response to the attacks on “the citizens, the cities, and most recently in the vicinity of Baalbek city resulting in the death of a civilian.”

The Israeli Army reported that 100 rockets targeted the Golan Heights from Lebanon. It also reported that its warplanes “attacked a short while ago three platforms from which rockets were launched towards the Golan Heights this morning.”

A wood-packing warehouse between the villages of Chmestar and Taraya was targeted on Monday night, as was a two-storey building in the vicinity of al-Amal hospital in Ansar, east of Baalbeck, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of six other.
