Ministry of Finance Strike Temporarily Suspended
The directors of the Ministry of Finance announced on Sunday the "temporary" suspension of their strike from Monday, March 4, to "complete the process of paying salaries and carry out all transactions of citizens and other departments and institutions of the state." These remarks came in a statement issued the day after a meeting held on Saturday evening with the Caretaker Minister of Finance, Youssef Khalil, in the presence of the Director General of Finance, George Maarawi.

As a reminder, these directors had begun their strike on February 22, when Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati asked Caretaker Minister of Finance Youssef Khalil to temporarily suspend the financial benefits to be granted to them, following the strike called by other civil servants to protest against what they described as the Executive's "discriminatory behavior" towards them.

They maintained their strike, while their colleagues in other ministries announced on Thursday that they would temporarily resume work until Friday, March 8, 2024.

The directors of the Ministry of Finance also called on the Minister of the Interior and Municipalities to take the necessary steps to elect new members to the Civil Servants' League board.

According to the press release, these elections have not been held for five years. The directors of the Ministry of Finance also called on "pensioners not to close access" to the Ministry and on Khalil to "prosecute anyone who attacks employees of the Public Finance Department in the media or on social networks."
