‘Ephemeral Lands:’ Salah Missi’s Solo Exhibition

In the heart of Beirut, an art event poised to challenge perceptions and invite introspection is set to open its doors. "Ephemeral Lands," the latest solo exhibition by Lebanese visual artist Salah Missi, promises an evening of artistic exploration and cultural reflection at the no/mad utopia gallery on Thursday, March 7, from 6 PM to 9 PM. This exhibition is a pivotal moment for Salah Missi, whose work delves deep into the constructs of collective identity and the invisible barriers that shape our existence.
Missi, born in 1992, is not only a visual artist with a rich academic background in architecture (M.Arch) and fine arts (BFA), but also a profound thinker who directs his curiosity toward the complexities of the Arab world. His artworks, a blend of paintings, drawings and prints, serve as a medium through which he questions the essence of shared existence, society’s unwritten rules and the impact of corrupt ruling systems. "Ephemeral Lands" is set to showcase Missi’s dedication to exploring these themes, offering a unique lens through which attendees can view their surroundings.

The exhibition’s title, "Ephemeral Lands," suggests a focus on transient states and the fleeting nature of place and identity in the face of adversity. It hints at the exploration of themes such as the struggle for a genuine sense of belonging, the construction of collective identity, and the mental boundaries that define and limit our perceptions of reality. Missi’s work is expected to challenge visitors to reflect on the unseen realities that shape our existence and to consider the enduring human struggle for identity amidst continuous cycles of adversity.
Located on Gouraud Street, after Paul bakery in Gemmayzeh, Beirut, the no/mad utopia gallery is an ideal venue for Missi’s exhibition. It provides a space that complements the introspective and challenging nature of his work. The opening reception promises to be an evening where art enthusiasts and the culturally curious can engage with Missi’s artworks, gaining insight into the artist’s perspective on identity, belonging and the societal constructs that influence our daily lives.
"Ephemeral Lands" is a journey through the landscapes of identity and belonging, guided by Salah Missi’s artistic vision. With his work having been exhibited in countries such as Germany, Ireland, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, Missi brings a diverse and insightful perspective to his first solo exhibition at no/mad utopia.
