- Mikati Signals Potential Cessation of Military Operations in Gaza
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said in a statement to Reuters on Thursday that substantial discussions are underway regarding the possible cessation of military operations in Gaza, called the "Ramadan Understanding."
Mikati noted that serious talks are expected to start as early as next week, emphasizing that a halt to the fighting in Gaza could pave the way for constructive discussions aimed at calming the situation in South Lebanon. Expressing confidence in the diplomatic process, he stated, "I am confident that Hezbollah will cease fire if Israel reciprocates and takes similar measures."
In a related development, American envoy Amos Hochstein is slated to visit Lebanon in the near future.
