Leader of the Independence Movement MP Michel Moawad hosted Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Bukhari at his residence in Baabda on Thursday. The discussions between the two officials covered critical issues affecting Lebanon and the broader region, including the raging conflicts in Gaza and South Lebanon, as well as the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
After the meeting, Moawad underscored the imperative need for the rigorous enforcement of Resolution 1701 to shield Lebanon and its citizens from the imminent threat of an all-encompassing war.
He warned of the potentially disastrous consequences should the conflict persist, stressing the urgent need for a sustainable solution to prevent further pain, humiliation, bloodshed, destruction and division among the Lebanese people.
Moawad also emphasized the pivotal opportunity at hand for the reorganization of state institutions. “Seizing this chance is essential for Lebanon to retrace its path towards a state founded on principles of law, robust institutions, reform and stability.”
Commending the countries of the Group of Five—better known as the Quintet—and particularly Saudi Arabia, Moawad expressed appreciation for their ongoing efforts to address the presidential vacuum in Lebanon.
Furthermore, the meeting delved into Lebanon's Arab and international relations, recognizing the vital role these connections play in the country’s stability and prosperity.
