UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander General Aroldo Lázaro described the confrontation taking place on the southern front as a "disturbing shift in the exchange of fire."
Lázaro urged all parties involved to "cease hostilities to prevent further escalation and leave room for a political and diplomatic solution that can restore stability and ensure the safety of the people in this region."
"This conflict has claimed too many lives, caused too much damage to homes and public infrastructure, and jeopardized livelihoods," he said.
He added that the conflict "changed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians on both sides of the Blue Line, yet we are now seeing an expansion and intensification of strikes."
"In recent days, we have continued our active engagement with the parties to ease tensions and prevent serious misunderstandings, but recent events have the potential to jeopardize a political solution to this conflict," he warned.
