Southern Front: A Hezbollah Leader Killed in Israeli Strike
One of Hezbollah's military officials, Hassan Hussein Salameh from al-Houjjair, was killed on Monday in an Israeli strike that targeted his moving vehicle. Salameh was in al-Majadel, a village approximately 15 kilometers from the border. Two other Hezbollah fighters were also killed in earlier air raids conducted by the Israeli military against Hezbollah positions in Baalbek.

Hezbollah announced in a statement that, “in response to the aggression near the city of Baalbek,” its fighters targeted an army base in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights “with 60 Katyusha rockets.”

The Israeli army informed AFP that “dozens of rockets” were launched from Lebanon, with no immediate reports of casualties.

This incident marks the first occasion in which Israel has targeted Hezbollah positions in Baalbek since the latter opened the southern front on October 8, with the onset of the Gaza war. It is also the Hebrew state’s first attack on positions in Baalbek since the July 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.

A Lebanese security source revealed to AFP that Israeli strikes targeted a Hezbollah-used building in a Baalbek suburb and a warehouse owned by the group in the villages of Majdaloun and Adous, situated near the town of Baalbek.

The Israeli army reported striking Hezbollah “aerial defense” sites in the Bekaa valley, attributing the action to the launch of a surface-to-air missile against a crashed Hermes-450 drone in the Iqlim al-Tuffah region earlier in the day.

Commenting on what seems to be an infringement of the rules of military engagement that have prevailed since October 8, Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Naïm Kassem warned against a widening of the scope of Israeli attacks in Lebanon. "If the field of Israeli attacks expands, we will do the same to prevent (Tel Aviv) from going far and achieving its goals," he said.

Hezbollah had previously announced that its “air defense unit successfully shot down a large Israeli Hermes-450 drone,” around 20 kilometers from the Israeli border.

During the evening, the Israeli army announced that it had "targeted Hezbollah objectives in southern Lebanon, including missile launch pads towards the Golan Heights".

It also said it had "bombed Hezbollah military buildings in Aïta el-Chaab".

Additionally, Hezbollah claimed to have targeted an Israeli soldiers’ unit at the al-Baghdadi site at dawn and, around midday, a gathering of soldiers in the Hadb Yarin perimeter.

Israeli bombardments extended to an uninhabited residence in Kfar Kila, as well as the outskirts of Jebbain and Aita al-Shaab. Simultaneously, Israeli reconnaissance planes were seen flying over Beirut and the Metn region.
