Caretaker Energy and Water Minister Walid Fayad held several meetings on the sidelines of the Seventh Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPS 2024), which runs until February 21 in Cairo, notably with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Molla, Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Egyptian Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdalla to discuss the implementation of contracts to supply Lebanon with Egyptian gas.
Fayad also asked for Egypt's help in avoiding sanctions resulting from the Caesar Act (implemented on June 17, 2020).
In addition, both Fayad and the Lebanese Petroleum Administration Authority are seeking, through this participation, to explore opportunities for future cooperation in the third round of gas exploration tenders in Lebanese waters with international companies, following the recent failure of this process with TotalEnergies.
