The Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian discussed on Sunday with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri the situation of Sunni Muslims, how to empower them and promote national unity among Lebanese citizens.
Derian emphasized that Dar al-Fatwa is keen on working with all Lebanese to save the country from collapse, reduce chaos, elect a unifying president and form an effective government that is capable of gaining the confidence of MPs, the representatives of the people.
Concerning the presidential dilemma, the Grand Mufti praised the efforts of the Quintet committee in breaking the deadlock. “The efforts being made by the Quintet are commendable, despite all the internal difficulties,” he said.
He also stated that the expansion of Israeli aggression on southern Lebanon and Gaza is “a heinous crime.”
