LF-PSP Coordination on the Presidency
Meetings are taking place between MPs of the Democratic Gathering bloc led by the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) and the Lebanese Forces’ Strong Republic bloc to review progress made by the five-nation group or Quintet, in their efforts to facilitate the long-stalled presidential election.

According to information from circles close to the Quintet which groups France, the US, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the president would be elected with American-Saudi approval, as part of a regional and international settlement.

Lebanese Forces circles assert that “it is out of the question” to repeat the mistake of President Michel Aoun’s election.

According to reliable information, a joint LF-PSP delegation who visited Riyadh recently to inquire about the outcome of the Quintet’s moves to advance the presidential issue, in parallel with the truce proposal in Gaza, did not bring anything new.

The delegation merely reiterated that the five-nation group does not have a preference for any particular candidate, nor a veto over any hope.
