Alfa and Touch on Strike
In a letter sent to employees on Monday, the union of cell phone operators Alfa and Touch announced "a complete work stoppage starting this afternoon." It demanded that employees' salaries be adjusted and paid in full in fresh dollars and that the collective labor agreement be signed.

The union pointed out that negotiations have been going on for over six months and that the consensual formula between all parties was put in place three months ago. This formula aims to renew the contract in such a way as to preserve both the rights of employees in the sector and its development.

In addition, the union notes that it has repeatedly received verbal and definitive approvals from both the Ministry of Telecommunications and the management of the two operators. However, "those concerned continue to prevaricate and procrastinate about the written and legal approval essential for the signing of the labor agreement."

The union highlighted the moral and legal responsibility of all those involved in this affair, accusing them of having "trampled on the rights of over 1,400 employees and their families while seeking to undermine the stability of the telecommunications sector in Lebanon and jeopardize the continuity of work."

The union called on the Ministry of Telecommunications, the management of the two operators, and the Parliamentary Commission for Information and Telecommunications to intervene quickly to resolve the problem.
