Beirut Airport Hacking: No News About Probe Outcome
Following the hacking of information screens at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport on January 7, caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hamiye vowed to conduct a thorough and quick investigation to reveal the causes of the cyberattack within a couple of days.

However, almost a month passed and no information has been revealed about the outcome of the purported investigation, neither by the ministry nor by the Directorate of Civil Aviation.

In fact, several violations of the law have been taking place at the airport amid the total inaction of the minister who has so far failed to take any measures to prevent them, putting at risk the reputation and standing of Lebanon’s only international airport.

For instance, among other violations, illegal advertisements have been raised in the passengers’ waiting area, right at the boarding gates, although it is common knowledge that advertisement is banned in those areas.

In the meantime, official circles underlined the urgent need to rectify the situation at the airport in order to prevent international measures being taken against it.

Last month’s cyberattack targeted the airport's flight information screens which displayed messages that warned Hezbollah against dragging Lebanon into a war with Israel.

The Iran-backed group is widely believed to wield significant control over the airport.
