- US Strikes Drones, Missiles within Yemen Vicinity
The US military reported on Saturday that their forces intercepted eight drones in the vicinity of Yemen and eliminated four additional ones within its territories, in addition to striking several anti-ship missiles that were set to be launched. These events occurred during a series of incidents on the preceding day.
US forces shot down eight drones near Yemen and destroyed four more on the ground, the US military said Saturday, announcing a series of incidents that took place the previous day.
US Central Command forces also conducted strikes in self-defense against six Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles prepared to launch against ships in the Red Sea.
The strikes and shoot-downs in and around Yemen came as US forces launched a wave of air raids on Iran-linked targets in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for an attack that killed three US troops last weekend.
USS Carney (DDG 64) shot down one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the Gulf of Aden. There were no injuries or damage reported.
Later in the day, at approximately 4:40 PM (Sanaa time), US Central Command forces targeted four Houthi drones that were preparing to launch.
US forces subsequently destroyed the drones in self-defense. At 9:20 PM (Sanaa time), USS Laboon (DDG 58) and F/A-18s from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group shot down seven drones over the Red Sea. There were no injuries or damage reported.
Meanwhile, F/A-18 warplanes and another ship downed seven others later that same day, and US forces destroyed four more before their scheduled launch, the Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on social media.
CENTCOM said the four drones destroyed on the ground belonged to Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis, but did not allocate a country or group to those that were targeted in the air.

The Houthis began targeting Red Sea shipping in November, saying they were hitting Israel-linked vessels in support of Palestinians in Gaza, which has been ravaged by the Israel-Hamas war.
US and UK forces have responded with strikes against the Houthis, who have since declared American and British interests to be legitimate targets as well.
In addition to strikes against the Houthis, the United States set up a multinational naval task force aimed at protecting shipping on the transit route, which carries up to 12 percent of global trade.
On January 28, a drone slammed into a base in Jordan, killing three US soldiers and wounding more than 40 -- an attack Washington blamed on Iran-backed forces.
The United States responded Friday with strikes against dozens of targets at seven Tehran-linked facilities in Iraq and Syria, but did not hit Iranian territory.
