2024 Budget: Further Disagreements Within the FPM
Heated debate within the Free Patriotic Movement. Members of former President Michel Aoun's party have fallen prey to political dissent, increasingly so since Aoun’s son-in-law, Gebran Bassil, took control of the group in 2015.

The last conflict to date was about the need for boycotting, or not, Wednesday’s parliamentary session aimed at examining the 2024 budget proposal. Bassil’s idea to have a “doubly urgent” law stipulate the adoption of the budget – to safeguard the President’s prerogatives – was not approved by the FPM’s deputies, who deemed it unconstitutional.

A temporary settlement was seemingly reached among the different sides within the movement. Stay tuned for more news.
