Hamadeh on Joumblatt-Frangieh Dinner: More Initiatives to Come
MP Marwan Hamadeh, member of the Democratic Gathering Bloc, spoke on Friday about the invitation for dinner on Monday extended by the former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Joumblatt, to the Marada party leader Sleiman Frangieh, noting that “the invitation is not for Sleiman Frangieh as presidential candidate, but for Sleiman Frangieh as northern leader, Marada party leader.” He pointed out that the dinner is one of the steps taken by the Progressive Socialist Party and the Democratic Gathering to address various issues. “There will be other initiatives to come with other counterparts,” he noted.

The MP emphasized the need to elect a president of the Republic. He stressed on the need to attend, and to halt the prevention, of the Parliament's sessions.

Hamadeh pointed out they have never been absent from Parliament. “Each time our vote was for a person, and voting for one person does not mean hostility towards another,” he said.

Regarding the Gaza war and the cross-border conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, he said that “it is evident that there is a real Iranianian-American war,” noting that “the only protective front on the borders of Palestine is Lebanon, which was supposed to be the last country to provide military support and the first country to provide political, diplomatic and media support for the Palestinian cause.”

“Lebanon is now exposed to the flames of war by an Iranian decision, and we hope that Hezbollah does not escalate further,” he added.

He stated that the dynamics of the ongoing war have overridden all attempts at calm, indicating that all visits from American, French, German envoys and others, are “raising the stakes.” In his opinion, Israel continues its plan to destroy Gaza and achieve specific objectives.
