Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari announced to The New York Times that the Israeli military has begun a new, less intensive phase in its war against Hamas in Gaza.

The transition already in place has featured fewer ground troops and airstrikes, he says.

The comments came hours before US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's expected arrival in Israel. One of the top items on his agenda is the transition to the next phase in fighting and the prevention of the conflict from spreading.

A goal that contradicts current developments with the alleged Israeli airstrike in Lebanon earlier today which killed a senior Hezbollah commander.

It’s also unclear whether the lower-intensity fighting in Gaza will mean less Gazan deaths as they continue to rise by the dozens each day.

Hagari tells The New York Times that the Israeli army will continue to reduce its troops' presence in Gaza, as it began to do earlier this month.
