The Syndicate of Telecom Employees, representing mobile phone operators in Lebanon Alfa and Touch, has once again spoken out, announcing that next week will be “crucial” if the Ministry of Telecommunications does not meet its demands and sign a collective agreement guaranteeing better work conditions.
The syndicate assured that it “will not hesitate to take the necessary measures and actions to preserve the continuity of employees’ work, by all legal means.”
In a letter to the employees, the syndicate stated that it had held a series of meetings with the management of both operators to complete the executive mechanisms and finalize the contract signing process. These meetings took place after the syndicate had granted the necessary time for the collective labor agreement to be signed and obtained the necessary assurances from those concerned to complete the ratification process.
The management of Alfa and Touch have confirmed that they will send the contract for approval to the Ministry of Telecommunications, together with the final copies, within the next two days, and that the new collective agreement will be signed next week at the latest.
The agreement is supposed to “guarantee a decent life and job stability” for the employees, including their social rights and readjustment of their salaries. One of the demands is related to the portion of wages received in fresh dollars. This portion does not reach 50% of remuneration, while mobile phone users pay their invoices in fresh dollars.
