New Year Kicks Off With Alarming Surge of Violence in South
The beginning of the year 2024 was marked by a serious surge in the confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah along the southern Lebanese border.

On the Lebanese side, the Israeli army bombed the village of Tayr Harfa on Monday evening.

A drone fired two missiles at Kfar Kila in the eastern sector and two others towards Labbouneh. The intense airstrikes in Kfar Kila resulted in injuries and fatalities, including the death of three Hezbollah fighters.

Furthermore, Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of the town of Hula, with several shells reported to have fallen in the area of Zahar al-Mughara and Wadi al-Dalafa.

There are reports of missing persons in the raid on the targeted house in Hula. Search operations are still ongoing, and bulldozers have been brought in to remove the rubble.

Earlier in the afternoon, reconnaissance planes flew over the northern regions of Lebanon, especially the city of Tripoli and Hermel.

An Israeli spy balloon was also spotted in the afternoon above al-Ghudayn by the villages of Dhayra and Aita al-Shaab.

According to a reporter from An-Nahar, artillery and missile bombardment is now resuming on several villages in the western and central sectors, especially in the outskirts of the Naqoura region, including al-Shaab, Aita al-Shaab, Dhayra and Maroun al-Ras.

On the Israeli side, alarm sirens sounded in all cities of the Upper Galilee amid suspicions of a drone infiltration from Lebanon that was shot down.

According to Israeli media, an anti-tank missile was launched from Lebanon towards Metula in the Upper Galilee.

Several Israeli outposts and settlements were also targeted in front of the border area, resulting in an Israeli response of artillery and missile fire on several Lebanese villages. Alarm sirens sounded in the settlements of Metula, Shlomi, Hanita, Liman, Betzet, Matzuva and Rosh Hanikra.
