Exploring Depth and Emotion in Missak Terzian's Colorful Canvases

To conclude the year beautifully, Rebirth Beirut opens its doors in Gemmayze with the season's final event, Colors in Motion by the artist Missak Terzian. It's an exhibition that wraps visitors in vibrant colors, taking them on a symphony of strong and vivid tones.
Terzian, a Lebanese-American artist of Armenian heritage, is renowned for his semi-abstract figurative works and modern abstract expressionism. His artistic journey began with his first major exhibition in 1984, and he has since participated in 146 exhibitions worldwide.
In 2017, Terzian shifted his focus from semi-abstract figurative expressionism to modern geometric abstraction. His artwork displays a sophisticated painting process that invites viewers to appreciate the underlying brushstrokes in each piece. Terzian’s creative drive is fueled by his quest to explore existential themes and capture moments in time, often drawing inspiration from nature.

The exhibition at Rebirth Beirut is a reflection of his nature-inspired themes and Lebanese heritage. It features large-format canvases with vibrant, graphic designs, portraying diverse natural landscapes, including rocky settings, marine environments, forests, mountains and Lebanese iconic sites such as the Temple of Bacchus. A magnificent and gigantic cedar majestically presides over a canvas, while birds with patterns reminiscent of those from the great Lebanese painters and other masters, soar over the frames and liberate themselves.

Terzian’s paintings are immersive, encouraging viewers to delve into a world where colors express profound emotions. The intricate texture work and layers of transparency in his paintings add a sense of depth and lightness, creating an enchanting visual experience.

The exhibition at Rebirth Beirut, continuing until January 5, 2024, supports the association’s humanitarian projects in Beirut, with a portion of sales dedicated to this cause. Set in a traditional Lebanese house converted into a gallery space, the exhibition offers a festive and colorful experience, resonating with the end-of-year atmosphere.
