- Renewal Bloc: Moumanaa's Axis Is Sending a Message via UNIFIL
The Renewal bloc (Michel Moawad, Achraf Rifi, Fouad Makhzoumi and Adib Abdel Massih) considered that the repeated attacks targeting the UNIFIL in the South seem to suggest that a “decision has been taken by the Moumanaa axis to threaten the work of these forces and prevent them from carrying out their duties.” In a statement issued on Friday, the bloc noted that this would be a “message sent to the international community via UNIFIL indicating that seeking to implement (United Nations Security Council) Resolution 1701 would be met with chaos and violence.”
Condemning the clashes that occurred on Thursday between residents of the southern village of Kfar Kila and a patrol of French soldiers, the Renewal bloc stated that these practices occurred at a time when “Lebanon needs to take all measures to protect itself from the increasing danger of being exposed to war.” It also condemned the “government's silence,” which seems “content with declaring helplessness and the loss of the decision between peace and war.” “This represents a shameful resignation from its responsibilities and duties towards the Lebanese and the international community,” it added.
Once again, the Renewal bloc emphasized the necessity for all parties to adhere to Resolution 1701 and return to its effective implementation. The MP’s asserted that they were opposed to “attempts to make the Lebanese hostages in the service of an Iranian regional hegemonic project at the expense of their security, their future and their economy.”
