Four Prisons Will Be Deprived of Food Supplies
Starting next year, Roumieh prison and the women's prisons in Baabda, Zahlé and Tripoli will be deprived of food. The six companies delivering food to these prisons have announced that they will suspend their services from December 31. The reason: a lack of funds and unpaid bills.

In a memo sent to the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces on Tuesday, the six companies explained that "the agreement to provide food" to these prisons "expires on December 31, while no call for tenders has been issued." Moreover, "the necessary financing is not assured," reads the note.

The companies also pointed out that "several invoices dating back to 2020, 2021 and 2022 remain unpaid." Added to this are "four months' invoices from 2022, as well as three months' tariff changes from 2023."

"The Council of Ministers had approved an advance on the budget worth 400 billion pounds, which the caretaker Minister of Finance, Youssef Khalil, had asked to be canceled, for lack of funds," the companies concerned recalled, pointing out that this is delaying the payment of sums due to them.
