Richard Moukarzel, a distinguished graduate in piano with a specialization in music theory and analysis from the Lebanese National Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musicology from Royal Holloway, University of London, currently holds professorial positions at the University of Oxford and Royal Holloway. His reputation has been built on his extensive research on semantic associations in Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle, as well as his profound interest in German Romanticism and Post-Romanticism.
The carefully curated recital program at Beit Tabaris is set to take the audience on an explorative journey through the repertoire of great composers. The evening will commence with the enchanting Paris, Autumn Melody op. 69' by Bechara El-Khoury, a piece renowned for its grace and elegance. This will be followed by On a Covered Path, Volume I by Leoš Janáček, a series of compositions that express deep emotional intensity, to be performed with the finesse and sensitivity that are hallmarks of Moukarzel's style.
One of the highlights of the evening is set to be the performance of Sonnet No. 104 after Petrarch by Franz Liszt, taken from his Years of Pilgrimage II (Italy), S161. This emotive and complex piece beautifully resonates with the tormented soul of the Italian poet Francesco Petrarca. Bringing the concert to a powerful close will be the poignant Isoldens Liebestod – Final Scene from Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde by Franz Liszt/Richard Wagner, a composition that perfectly captures the essence of love and loss.
Moukarzel's ability to evoke powerful emotions through his music is widely acclaimed, and this lecture-recital is expected to serve as a testament to his remarkable talent. His scholarly contributions and regular collaborations with classical music societies underscore his deep commitment to the art of music.
