Lebanese Forces Party Leader Samir Geagea thanked on Thursday the US Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothea Shea, during her farewell visit to Meerab, for her efforts and those of the United States in supporting Lebanese institutions.
In her presence, he emphasized that Lebanon was on an extremely “dangerous verge last week,” (referring to Army Commander Joseph Aoun's term extension).
“Had it not been for the parliamentary efforts to prevent the vacuum in the military institution, the consequences would have been unaccounted for,” he insisted.
Geagea hoped that this positive step in Parliament would extend to presidential elections, turning into a driving force of reconciliation leading to open sessions to elect a president of the Republic.”
Lisa Johnson is to succeed Shea after the US Senate confirmed her nomination as Ambassador to Beirut. She is expected to take up her post in early January.
