French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna will meet White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan who will be in Israel this weekend.
Before going to Israel, Colonna will be in Lebanon on Saturday to visit French forces operating within UNIFIL, in order to examine the situation in the south of the country and to discuss the US-French proposal to halt the escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border and implement Resolution 1701.
However, the US-French proposal remains a subject of debate as it contributes to the establishment of a demilitarized zone. It also provides for French assistance in southern Lebanon to monitor the situation in cooperation with the Lebanese army, and the deployment of US forces along the southern border. This proposal is currently under discussion in Qatar to reach an agreement, noting that Iranian officials are currently in Doha and closely following developments concerning Lebanon.
