Geagea: I No Longer Expect Anything from France
The leader of the Lebanese Forces (LF), Samir Geagea, has declared that he "no longer expects anything from France" and that he is "now a target for Hezbollah."

In an interview with the French weekly “Valeurs actuelles,” Geagea denounced the French government's stance on Lebanon. According to him, "France only listens to the balance of power. So much the worse if supporting [Hezbollah's] candidate means going against Lebanese sovereignty, reforms, and institutions." He added, "Emotionally, I'm still waiting for France. From a practical point of view, I no longer expect anything. For me, as a Lebanese citizen who loves [Paris], this is not acceptable."

Asked why he remains confined to his Maarab hideout, Geagea replied, "I've become a target for Hezbollah. You know, they're no fools. When they kill opponents, it's to change the situation."

War in Gaza

Commenting on the war in Gaza, which has pitted Hamas against Israel since October 7, the head of the LF said that it was difficult to anticipate the future of Lebanon (which has been largely affected by events). The war has "frozen the Lebanese scene," and Hezbollah, that "Iranian weapon par excellence," has sought to "impose its agenda on Lebanon" and has "ended up paralyzing the country," said Geagea. According to him, "at the end of the Gaza war, the balance of power will have changed in the Middle East. What we don't know is whether it will have changed a little or a lot."
