The Lebanese Football Federation announced on the 11th of December the hiring of the Montenegrin manager Miodrag Radulovic as head coach of the men’s national team (MNT).
This news succeeds to the termination of the contract of the last manager, the Croatian Nikola Yursovic. Just two months after his appointment, Yursovic will be leaving the job to make way for another Balkan manager.
After leading only two official games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Palestine, Yursovic was sacked on the 8th of December. The appointment of Radulovic marks a new exciting phase in Lebanese football, as he used to manage Montenegro in the Euro Cup Qualifiers.
It is also worth noting that he previously coached Lebanon from 2015 to 2019 before moving to Myanmar. His term was also the longest for a coach with the Lebanese MNT.
This hiring also proves that football is in a dire situation in Lebanon because since Radulovic’s departure in 2019, the Lebanese Federation has changed coaches 5 times, at a rate of one coach per year. This statistic shows that the new manager has a lot of work to do, including the restoration of some stability within the team.
Lebanese fans will be looking forward to these changes within the staff, as Radulovic will be leading the team in next month’s Asian Cup 2023 hosted by Qatar.
