- Gaza-Like Scenes in Most Severe Barrage on South Lebanon
In the most severe day of bombing since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, Israel intensified its airstrikes on southern Lebanon Sunday, leading to extensive destruction and confirmed injuries.
Residential areas in Aytaroun witnessed significant Israeli air raids that resulted in injuries and massive damage that evoked destruction in Gaza. The assault reportedly destroyed an entire neighborhood, flattening houses and causing substantial damage.
Four people were reportedly injured in the strike on the border town.
Israeli forces targeted various locations during the day, including Khiam, where an Israeli drone carried out a strike.
Artillery shelling also extended to the outskirts of Naqoura, with a missile striking near a mosque in Marwahin. Wata al-Khiam was the target of an Israeli raid, further exacerbating the raging violence. Heavy bombardments were reported in Alma al-Shaab and Khellat Moussa near Rmeish. Additionally, Israeli forces targeted Kfar Kila, Yaroun, Ain Ebel, Kounin, Helta, Shkaif (outside of Kfarchouba) and Tallet Hamames.
The dire situation has forced residents in villages on the southern Lebanese border to seize brief lulls to secure essential supplies such as food and medicine. Reports indicate that Israel is targeting any moving object, including civilian vehicles, especially during the night.
UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura was struck with the remains of an Israeli missile that fell nearby, triggering sirens. An Israeli tank shell also struck a Lebanese Army outpost, without causing casualties.
In a retaliatory move, Hezbollah targeted Zabdin, Ruwaysat al-Alam and Ramtha on the hills of Kfarchouba and the occupied Shebaa Farms, inflicting casualties among Israeli soldiers, according to a Hezbollah communique.
Hezbollah gunmen also fired Burkan (volcano) missiles at Israeli Army positions and barracks along the southern border, namely in Kalaait Hunayn, Birkat Risha, Ya'ara, Jal al-Alam and al-Abad barracks, scoring direct hits and inflicting significant damage.
