- Banks to Join General Strike in Solidarity With Gaza on Monday
A general strike will be observed on Monday December 11 in response to a global call for solidarity with Gaza, the National News Agency reported.
The announcement was made Sunday evening by the General Directorate of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
A statement said caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced “the closure of all public administrations, public institutions and municipalities in response to the global call for Gaza and in solidarity with the Palestinian people and with our people in Gaza and in the Lebanese border villages."
The Minister of Education also announced the closure of all schools and universities for the day.
The Banks Association in Lebanon also issued a communique announcing the closure of all banks across Lebanon on Monday "in solidarity with the Palestinian people."
Also, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced that he postponed by 24 hours a session of parliament committees that was scheduled on Monday at 10:30 AM.
