Independent Tripoli MP Ihab Matar underlined the need to "extend the mandate of the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Joseph Aoun, as well as that of the Director General of the Internal Security Forces (ISF), General Imad Othman.”
Matar argued on Saturday that “the very critical situation in Gaza, which reflects a real danger for Lebanon, requires that the officers not be changed,” believing that it would be “wise for the situation to remain stable at the level of the security services, particularly the Lebanese army, during the war.”
In an interview with Sputnik Arabic radio, he added that “today there is talk of the third option (for the presidency), and General Joseph Aoun is one of the names.”
Matar also stressed “the need to apply Resolution 1701 along Lebanon's southern border," adding that “it must be respected by both parties (Hezb and Israel).”
It should be noted that the MP Ihab Matar is the only one to have voted for General Joseph Aoun during the electoral session of June 14.
