Lebanon’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York filed a complaint to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council on Thursday, accusing Israel of violating its sovereignty in a military incursion that began on the night of October 1, 2024.
The complaint follows Israel’s recent decision to launch a ground invasion into Lebanese territory.
Lebanon’s complaint underscores Israel’s breach of the Blue Line, the UN withdrawal line established in 2000. It denounced Israel’s contradictory calls for the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 while consistently violating its provisions since it was issued in 2006.
Lebanon also condemned Israel’s ongoing aggression, which has dramatically escalated over the past weeks, with numerous attacks targeting civilians, humanitarian workers, and journalists.
The relentless exchange of fire, including 8,570 airstrikes and artillery attacks, resulted in 1,975 deaths and over 9,290 injuries, including many women and children.
The violence has also triggered a tragic humanitarian crisis, displacing around 1.2 million civilians.
Lebanon urged the Security Council to condemn Israel’s ground invasion and extensive military operations on Lebanese soil.
The Lebanese mission has called on the United Nations Security Council to compel Israel to implement Resolution 1701, withdraw from all occupied territories, and respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and internationally recognized borders.
Furthermore, Lebanon reaffirmed its commitment to upholding all Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, while asserting its authority over all national territory within internationally recognized boundaries.
