Meanwhile, Caretaker Education Minister Abbas Halabi announced the suspension of classes at the Lebanese University and private universities for one week, from Monday, September 30, 2024, until the evening of Sunday, October 6, 2024.

“Administrative and logistical work will continue, except in university centers where military events necessitate a complete halt, as instructed by the intstitution’s management. Medical, pharmaceutical, health, and other centers whose nature and duties require ongoing activity will remain operational,” the statement added.

The Minister urged the Lebanese University and private higher education institutions to conduct surveys assessing the situation of displaced students. The goal is to develop appropriate plans to ensure these students can continue their education and to implement necessary measures in light of Lebanon’s current circumstances, particularly concerning their displacement and ability to access educational resources.

This includes the possibility of diversifying education methods to ensure the 2024-2025 academic year proceeds and concludes within its regular schedule and under the best possible circumstances, the statement reads.

Halabi emphasized that the suspension applies to all public and private schools, secondary schools, and vocational institutions.
