On the eve of the fourth anniversary of the massive August 4, 2020, port explosion, which destroyed large swathes of Beirut, the head of the Bar Association, Fadi Masri, on Thursday vowed to continue the fight on behalf of the victims’ families until justice is served.

“We are morally and humanely committed to continuing the struggle for the truth and holding those responsible accountable,” Masri said at a conference at the Association’s seat.

With the investigation into the port blast, which killed more than 200 people and injured thousands, suspended for months, Masri said efforts are geared towards placing the probe back on the right judicial track.

“We are committed to returning the investigation into the Beirut Port explosion to its national judicial path and to ward off all political influence. We will not remain silent about attempts aimed at disrupting the probe, and we will confront them with escalatory steps as permitted by the law,” Masri added.

He vowed to “hold all those responsible accountable and bring them to justice, whatever their role,” affirming that the “Bar Association is steadfast with the families of the victims of August 4 and in defending rights and justice.”
