After a historic performance in the first round of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Benjamin Hassan was defeated on Monday by Argentine Sebastian Baez, ranked 18th in the world, with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(3).

On Monday at the Olympic tennis courts, Lebanese player Benjamin Hassan faced formidable opposition in the form of Sebastian Baez. The Argentine, currently ranked 18th in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Rankings, ultimately triumphed over Hassan in three sets: 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(3).

The first set saw Baez impose his rhythm, using his power and precision to take the advantage and win the set 6-2. Hassan, far from being discouraged, responded with renewed energy in the second set. Displaying fierce determination and a varied game, he found weaknesses in Baez’s play to win 6-3, thus equalizing the score and reigniting the hopes of his supporters.

This fierce battle reflected the tenacious spirit of Hassan, who had already made Lebanese tennis history the day before. By defeating American Christopher Eubanks in the first round, Hassan became the first Lebanese player to win a match at the Olympic Games, an achievement celebrated by his entire country.

The third set against Baez was decisive. The Argentine, regaining his initial form, dominated with precise forehands and an unrelenting offensive strategy. Despite all of Hassan’s efforts to resist and create opportunities, Baez took control of the set, winning 7-6(3) and sealing his victory.

Although Benjamin Hassan exited the Paris 2024 Olympics after this defeat, he did so with pride, having achieved a historic feat for Lebanese tennis.
