As part of the digital transformation project initiated by the Ministry of Economy and Trade, 18 administrative procedures under the Ministry’s responsibility will be digitized by the end of March, and all formalities will be dematerialized during 2024.

The caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, announced on his X account (formerly Twitter) that his ministry is working to digitize 50% of formalities to facilitate citizens’ work and combat corruption.

The move, on which the Ministry of Economy and Trade has been working with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is part of an overall plan to combat corruption, improve service efficiency and facilitate working procedures. “In the first phase (by the end of March), the Ministry will be able to digitize around 50% of transactions, and it will achieve full digitization over the course of 2024. As such, the Ministry of Economy will be the first public administration to implement e-government,” the announcement reads.

UNDP officials are due to start training employees next week. It should be noted that a meeting was held on Tuesday with a UNDP delegation, during which the Ministry of Economy received 40 touch tablets.
