The exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israel resumed on Sunday along Lebanon’s southern border, where four people were killed, including two Hezbollah fighters, in an Israeli air raid on the village of Aita el-Shaab.
Hezbollah announced the death of its two combatants in a communique. It said one of them, codenamed ‘jihad’, hailed from the village of Beit Leef in south Lebanon, and the other, codenamed ‘oussama’, from the town of Hazeen in the Bekaa. The raid also targeted a house in Aita el-Shaab in which a civilian was killed.
The Israeli Army announced in a statement that it had attacked Hezbollah’s infrastructure.
“Israeli Army forces are attacking firing sources using artillery. A multitude of launch operations have been monitored from Lebanese territory, but without crossing into Israeli territory,” the statement read.
Hezbollah responded by targeting the Aramsha region.
A video circulated on social networks showing “an Israeli raid carried out by fighter jets on Jabal al-Bat, surrounding the town of Aitaroun.” Israeli artillery targeted the area opposite the al-Abad military site, between the towns of Mays al-Jabal and Hula.
In the early afternoon, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a transmission station belonging to the cell phone company, MTC, and an Internet subscription station in the town of Taybeh. Damage was limited to equipment.
In addition, the Israeli Army carried out continuous bombardments in the Khallet Al-Naml area, near the government hospital in Mays al-Jabal, and close to the al-Abad military site. Israeli shells fell near one of UNIFIL’s centers in the western sector, and Israeli aircraft attacked a road in Alma al-Shaab near the police station. Machine-gun clashes between the Israeli Army and Hezbollah also took place in the Shebaa Farms.
For its part, Hezbollah announced in a statement that it had targeted and wounded four Israeli soldiers as they entered a positioning point east of Sa’sa in the Upper Galilee. The pro-Iranian group also targeted the Jal al-Alam site.
Earlier in the morning, it targeted an Israeli military force near the Hanita site. Hezbollah also announced that it had raided the Birkat Richa site, where several Israeli soldiers were stationed, causing confirmed injuries among their ranks.
In addition, at dawn on Sunday, the Israeli Army fired heavy weapons bursts on the outskirts of the city of Naqoura, in the mountains of al-Alam and Naqoura.
Throughout the night and into the morning, Israeli reconnaissance aircraft flew over villages in the western and central sectors, as far as the outskirts of the city of Tyre. They also fired flares over villages adjacent to the Blue Line.
More than 64,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon, mainly in the south, since the start of the confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel on October 8, according to figures from the International Organization for Migration.
