In its commitment to promoting culture and social solidarity, YAZAN presents Al Aadiloun, a theatrical adaptation of Albert Camus’s Les Justes, masterfully directed by Caroline Hatem. This performance will take place at Ked Beirut (Quarantaine) on the 17th, 18th and 19th of November at 6:30 PM. The event is free but reservations should be made.

In conjunction with these performances, residents of Mar Mikhael, known for their small businesses and independence, are organizing a local market starting at 5 PM, offering a showcase of their products until 9 PM.

Al Aadiloun immerses the audience in the heart of a group of radical revolutionaries determined to assassinate a criminal state official. The play raises critical moral questions about political assassination and examines the radicals’ extremism: can they allow themselves simple pleasures, to live and love, or must they bear the burden of every slave under the yoke of the despot, as one of the characters suggests?

Performed in Lebanese dialect, the play is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long. For more information or reservations, contact yazanbeirut@gmail.com or +96170789906.

This initiative is supported by AFAC, the Goethe-Institut Libanon, Bankers Assurances, the Robert Matta Foundation, the Massar Foundation and the French Institute. The performances at KED are supported by the BERYT project, implemented by UN Habitat through funds from the Lebanon Financing Facility (LFF), administered by the World Bank. The Cultural and Creative Industries section is implemented by UNESCO Beirut.

The cast features talents such as Josef Akiki as Nasri and Maeve Lichaa playing Mayève, among other gifted actors. The technical team is led by James Chehab, with costumes designed by Nour Domloje and makeup and costume assistance by Roy Ayoub. The play is translated by Caroline Hatem and Josef Akiki and produced by YAZAN.

In a troubled regional context, where Lebanon and neighboring countries are going through difficult periods marked by war, Al Aadiloun stands as an artistic expression offering a haven of peace and serenity. This cultural event demonstrates the power of art to provide moments of escape and reflection, essential in these times of crisis.
