The Secretary-General of Catholic Schools, Father Youssef Nasr, stated that schools in the border strip have been closed for a week, amid a large displacement of Lebanese residents from that area.

In an interview with the local radio station Voice of Lebanon, he announced that “several measures have been taken, chief among which is conducting a census of the areas where students are located, activating remote teaching when possible or sending lessons to the students if online learning is not possible.”

Father Nasr also indicated that there is a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to address the school crisis caused by the tension in the south.

Furthermore, he said that they have learned about a meeting at the Ministry of Education and the establishment of a crisis cell in the public sector. “We are working to protect our schools in the southern border areas,” he added.

“We have no issue with moving a group of students to another location while keeping them registered under the name of their original school to avoid any demographic change. We hope this will be a short-term challenge that can be resolved smoothly,” he concluded.
